Town of Truckee

California

RESOLUTION NO. 98-05

A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF TRUCKEE TOWN COUNCIL
SUPPORTING MEASURE A

WHEREAS, the voters of the Town of Truckee will vote on Measure A at the April 14,
1998 election; and

WHEREAS, Measure A is of great significance to the future of the Town of Truckee and
its citizens; and

WHEREAS, in the course of fully informing themselves concerning Measure A, the voters
should be aware of the position(s) of their locally elected officials; and

WHEREAS, on Februa~ 19, 1998 the Town Council conducted a public forum on Measure
A and heard the views of Town citizens both in favor of and opposed to Measure A; and

WHEREAS, after deliberation and discussion the Town Council has decided to take a
position with regard to Measure A;

NOW THEREFORE, THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TRUCKEE, finds
that:

1. A citizen's advisory committee, representing a broad cross section of the Truckee
community including both business and residential interests, has recommended passage of this ¼
cent Sales Tax measure, the funds from which shall be used for road maintenance only on the
designated "backbone" roads.

2. Truckee voters, in a November 1995 advisory election, rejected a road funding
measure that was based upon a property based parcel charge. Measure A is not a property based tax.

3. Citizen input both at the citizen's committee level and at the Town Council have
urged that the Town identify a mad funding mechanism that also allows visitors who use Town roads
to also help pay for those roads. Measure A does that.

4. The citizen's committee has purposefully reduced the scope (and cost) of this road
maintenance effort to deal only with the "backbone" roads of Truckee that are used by all Town
citizens.
