Town of Truckee <br /> TOWN COUNCIL <br />REGULAR MEETING MINUTES <br /> <br /> February 5, 1998, 6:00 P.M. <br />Truckee Donner Public Utility District Board Room <br /> 11570 Donner Pass Road, Truckee, CA <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER - Mayor Florian called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. <br /> <br />ROLL CALL <br />PRESENT: <br /> <br />Council Members Drake, McCormack, Schneider, Susman, and Mayor <br />Florian <br /> <br />ALSO PRESENT: <br /> <br />Stephen L. Wright, Town Manager; J. Dennis Crabb, Town Attorney; and <br />Vicki Soderquist, Deputy Town Clerk <br /> <br />PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE was led by Mary Lou Carson of Gallup, New Mexico. <br /> <br />PUBLIC COMMENT <br />4.1 Steve Carpenter, Save Our Roads in Support of Measure A, informed the Council that <br />the committee was comprised of many of the members of the former road committees and had <br />received endorsements from the Downtown Merchants Association, Chamber of Commerce, Tahoe <br />Donner Association, CARE, Glenshire/Devonshire Homeowners Association, Donner Lake Property <br />Owners Association, and Tahoe Sierra Meadows Community Association. They also expected <br />endorsements from several other organizations. They had submitted a ballot argument in favor of <br />Measure A and noted that no arguments against the measure had been submitted. The measure was <br />a ~ cent sales tax that would sunset in 12 years and would be paid by tourists and locals. The <br />revenues would go only to the "backbone" road system; i.e. the roads that were utilized the most. <br />He requested that the Council agendize for their next meeting consideration of a resolution in <br />support of Measure A. He noted that the previous action to place the measure on the ballot was a <br />3-2 to vote, with one Councilmember in opposition due to the calling ora special election and the <br />other in opposition due the perception of lack of community support. He felt that they had <br />demonstrated the community support, therefore, they asked for unanimous support by the Council. <br /> <br />Mayor Florian requested that staff agendize a resolution of support for the February 19, 1998 <br />meeting. Councilmember Susman noted that if the measure passed it would make existing funding <br />available for repairing other roads. <br /> <br />PRESENTATIONS <br />5.1 Introduction of New Town Employees. Tony Lashbrook, Director of Community <br />Development, introduced Stacy Wydra the new Assistant Planner. Jon Lander, Town Engineer, <br />introduced the new Associate Town Engineer, Dan Wilkins, a registered Civil Engineer/Traffic <br />Engineer. <br /> <br />5.2 Presentation by the Friends of the Library. Kelly Carroll, Secretary, Friends of the <br />Library, stated the Nevada County Board of Supervisors had placed a measure for a 1/8th cent sales <br />tax on the June 2, 1998 ballot as a result of the recommendation of the Blue Ribbon Committee. The <br />Friends supported thc measure but was not spearheading the campaign due to their tax-exempt <br />status. The Friends had also requested that the Nevada County Librarian, Francisco Pinelli, project <br />the revenues and percentage that would be returned to the Truckee Library as they were presently <br /> <br /> <br />
