TOWN OF TRUCKEE <br /> TOWN COUNCIL <br />SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES <br /> <br /> June 1, 1998, 6:00 P.M. <br />Truckee Donner Public Utility District Board Room <br /> 11570 Donner Pass Road, Truckee, CA <br /> <br />o <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER - Mayor Florian called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. <br /> <br />ROLL CALL <br />PRESENT: <br /> <br />Councilmembers Drake, McCormack, Sclmeider, Susman, and Mayor <br />Florian <br /> <br />ALSO PRESENT: <br /> <br />Stephen L. Wright, Town Manager; and Kelly Holm, Administrative <br />Secretary <br /> <br />PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE was led by Kathleen Eagan. <br /> <br />PUBLIC COMMENT - None <br /> <br />COUNCIL IMMEDIATE PRIORITIES <br />5.1 Southwest Gas Status Report. Recommendation: <br />and the CA Public Utilities Commission (PUC) as desired. <br /> <br />Council provide direction to staff <br /> <br />Mr. Wright stated that the Council held a special council meeting on May 19, 1998 to discuss the <br />issue relating to Southwest Gas's (SWG) application pending before the PUC requesting a <br />modification from their original application for providing natural gas services in Truckee. <br />He mentioned that additional public information came to light of the impact of SWG's modified <br />application at which time Councilmembers felt the importance of taking a strong position with <br />the PUC by urging them to reject SWG's application and uphold the recommended opinion from <br />Administrative Law Judge Wright. <br /> <br />Mr. Wright explained that Ms. Eagan, Mr. Simon, Councilmember McCormack, and he attended <br />the PUC meeting on May 21, 1998 to make presentations under public comments. He mentioned <br />that the PUC had two items on their agenda, one was consideration of Judge Wright's <br />recommendation, and the other was the potential consideration of an alternate motion suggested <br />by one of the Commissioners. The Town heard the alternate recommendation was some form of <br />negotiated agreement between the Office of Raypair Advocates and SWG, but that item was held <br />at the last minute from the agenda. Since that time, more activity has occurred within the <br />community and it was the desire to have a unanimous Town Council position for presentation to <br />the PUC. He stated that the purpose of this special Council meeting was for the Councilmembers <br />to come to a collective position on this issue, and to decide how best to make the presentation to <br />the PUC on June, 4, 1998. <br /> <br />Mr. Wright mentioned that letters of support of the Town Council's position were received from <br />Tahoe Donner Homeowner's Association, Assemblyman "Rico" Oiler, and several other <br />individuals.
