March 4, 2013 <br />Denyelle Nishimori <br />Senior Planner <br />Truckee Community Development Department <br />10183 Truckee Airport Road <br />Truckee CA 96161 <br />Re: DEIR Comments for the Proposed Canyon Springs Development <br />Dear Denyelle, <br />The following are issues /concerns regarding the DEIR for the Canyon Springs project: <br />1) The DEIR does not address the intersection traffic flow and most importantly the <br />safety aspect at the intersections of Olympic Boulevard /Glenshire Drive and Highland <br />Avenue /Glenshire Drive (in and out of Olympic Heights) as a result of the significant <br />increase in traffic from the proposed Canyon Springs development. <br />2) While traffic in and out of Olympic Heights may not increase, the additional traffic <br />generated from the proposed Canyon Springs project will significantly impact the <br />Olympic Heights residents /visitors coming to and from the subdivision. Don't wait for <br />a fatal accident to occur to determine that a "mitigation measure" should have been <br />implemented. <br />3) The costs of the traffic and safety studies regarding these intersections, and any <br />corresponding mitigation expenses, should be borne upon the Canyon Springs <br />developer, and not the taxpayer (or via the Town) and be completed prior to project <br />work commencing. <br />Thank you. <br />Mike Starrett, Olympic Heights resident <br />11477 E.
