Town of Truckee <br />California <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 94-55 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TRUCKEE <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Sagehen Creek is the premier mountain field station in the University of California system and <br />has been an important and productive base for researchers and students since its official establishment in 1951; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Sagehen Creek Field Station possesses the longest continuous record of biological and <br />geophysical monitoring data in the Sierra Nevada; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Sagehen Creek Field Station's intact and monitored watershed coupled with its diverse <br />population of Sierra Nevada and Great Basin flora and fauna provides fertile ground for scientific and applied research <br />in the disciplines of forestry, wildlife, fisheries and plant biology, soil science, hydrology and other subjects; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this research has resulted in international recognition and valuable information used in <br />managing natural resources; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the UC Berkeley Department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management has scheduled <br />Sagehen Creek Field Station for closure in 1995, jeopardizing this important resource at a time when the Sierra is <br />faced with rapid population growth and challenging natural resource issues including forest and Truckee River basin <br />water management; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, inclusion of the Sagehen Creek Field Station into the University's Natural Reserve System will <br />expand educational benefits for residents and visitors to the Truckee-Tahoe Region and enhance collaborative resource <br />management efforts with local governments, state and federal agencies. <br /> <br /> THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the continued operation of Sagehen Creek Field Station by the <br />University of Califomia and its inclusion into the University's Natural Reserve System is in the best interests of the <br />Citizens of Truckee and the State of California; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Truckee Town Council unequivocally supports the continued <br />operation of the Sagehen Creek Field Station and urges the University of California Regents and Administration to <br />take whatever steps necessary to achieve this goal. <br /> <br />The foregoing Resolution was introduced at a Regular Meeting of the Town Council of the Town of Truckee, held <br />on the 17th day of November, 1994, by Council Member Cross who moved its adoption, which motion being duly <br />seconded by Council Member Aguera was upon roll call carried and the Resolution adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />AYES: <br /> <br />Council Members Aguera, Carpenter, Cross & Mayor Eagan <br /> <br />NOES: None <br /> <br />ABSENT: Council Member BotIo <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />Kathleen Eagan, Mayor <br /> <br /> <br />
