TOWN OF TRUCKEE <br /> California <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 2003-58 <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TRUCKEE <br /> COMMENDING POLICE CHIEF DAN BOON AT THE TIME OF HIS RETIREMENT <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Dan Boon was hired by the Town of Truckee as Truckee's first Chief <br />of Police on January 25, 2001; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in just under 9 months, Chief Boon brought together a fully <br />functional Department including the hiring of over 25 employees, vehicles, and personal <br />equipment, as well as training and operational policies and procedures, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, on September 1, 2001, the inauguration of the Truckee Police <br />Department was marked guided by the philosophy That no call for our service will <br />ever be too small...and that we will provide police services to the community.., in <br />the same manner.., and at the same level.., we expect other law enforcement <br />agencies to deliver police services to members of our own families; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, during the startup period he negotiated both a jail and dispatch <br />services agreement with Nevada County and initially set up the Police Department in <br />temporary facilities, followed by the development of a fully functional permanent Police <br />Facility located in the Town Hall building, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, his guidance has lead not only to the creation of a new Department, <br />but also established a Community Oriented Policing philosophy that has expanded <br />basic operations to services including Donner Lake boat and PWC patrols, downtown <br />foot patrols, citizens academies, Volunteers in Policing, associations with the Bear <br />League and initiation of a Truckee PD explorers post, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, through his leadership he has established strong interagency <br />cooperation with Nevada County, Placer County, Grass Valley, Nevada City and <br />Washoe County, Nevada as well as effective linkages with the Truckee Fire District, the <br />U.S. Forest Service and other emergency responders in the region, and <br /> <br /> WHEREA~, throughout this intensive start-up effort, his calm demeanor and <br />sense of humor prevailed as he dealt with the rigors of not only a new PD start-up, but <br />also all of the community involvement aspects of a new Chief in a new Town. He has <br />continually balanced the needs for a strong law enforcement presence with the need for <br />a community oriented and helpful organization that strives to meet the needs of the <br />numerous interest groups in Truckee, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Chief Boon has chosen to retire from his law enforcement career <br />effective on December 19, 2003 and move to his new home in Oregon City, Oregon. <br /> <br /> <br />
